Before October 2013, Group T - International University College Leuven organized in Leuven - autonomously and with success - academic bachelor's and master's degree programs in engineering technology, taught both in Dutch and in English. In order to realize Group T's ambitions, intensive international cooperation was set up as of 1992 with partner universities, at first in China, later on in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, followed by Ethiopia and India.
The international cooperation focused on a new inspiring vision on engineering education, taking into account a plurality of world views and based on the development of new international engineering curricula in Leuven as well as in the partner universities. To this end, President Johan De Graeve designed a new educational concept philosophy, the 5'E' strategy of engineers, where the 5 'E's stand for engineering, enterprising, educating, environmenting, and ensembling.
On October 1, 2013, Group T - International University College Leuven integrated its degree programs in engineering technology into the University of Leuven. They found their place in 'KU Leuven - Campus Group T', part of the Faculty of Engineering Technology of KU Leuven.
In purpose of further expanding the expertise to redefine engineering education around the world, to boost existing engineering programs, and to expand or to help set up new engineering programs in European, Asian and African universities, GROUP T - ACADEMY was founded in the fall of 2013. The new legal entity under the umbrella of the KU Leuven ensures the continuity of the large international network that was built up, together with the significant expertise in engineering education, to the benefit of KU Leuven - Campus Group T.
